For the first time, Nederburg features on the esteemed Drinks International World's Most Admired Wine Brands list this year, in 49th position. It is one of just two South African wine brands to appear on the list, selected by 200 wine professionals, including over 30 Masters of Wine.
The achievement puts Nederburg, one of the most dynamic brands in the Distell portfolio, in the company of several very famous wine names. Amongst the luminaries on the list, are Australia's Penfolds (in first position), French icons Chateau D'Yquem, Chateau Haut-Brion, Chateau Latour and Chateau Margaux, and the high-profile Spanish brand, Campo Viejo.
excellent marketing and packaging; and a strong appeal to a wide demographic.
According to the organisers, to make it into the international line-up of the top 50 wine brands, demands consistent or improving quality; a reflection of region or country of origin; a responsiveness to the needs and tastes of target audiences; excellent marketing and packaging; and a strong appeal to a wide demographic.
In motivating their selection of Nederburg, the organisers note: "It is well known that Nederburg is one of South Africa's most awarded wineries but what is less well known is that the company produces a collection of micro-cuvées under the Ingenuity and II Centuries labels, as well as the Heritage Heroes range of individually named wines that honour important people in its history."
The organisers also highlight Nederburg's innovative new communications and refreshed packaging.
Such high-level affirmation for Nederburg is a huge boost as we build the brand's global presence
Global general manager, Dè-Mari Kellerman says: "Such high-level affirmation for Nederburg is a huge boost as we build the brand's global presence. We have already taken Nederburg to a new level thanks to exciting new listings (including in the very tough UK market), our alignment with pro-cycling via Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka and the support of Terlato, a leading wine distributor in the US.
